2023 South African Laser Run national championships
This past weekend, Isla Thomas competed at the 2023 South African Laser Run national championships held in Mankele, Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. Isla competed in the under 17 section, which for laser run involves shooting (5 hits from 10m within 50 seconds) followed by a 600m cross country run. In total the under 17s compete across 4 rounds of shooting and 4 rounds of running. Isla placed 3rd overall in a time of 10:50, which was a minute and a half faster than her previous personal best. As a result, Isla has qualified for the World Championships to be hosted in Bath, Great Britain between 19-21 August.
