Grade R Measurement

Measurement is an essential mathematical concept that young children can begin to explore through hands-on activities. Introducing measurement at an early age helps children understand size, length, weight, and capacity. Before you get the rulers, tape measures and scales out, it’s important to introduce non-standard units of measurement to children. Lots of fun was had this week as the Grade R girls measured and compared the sizes of the wild animals using unifix blocks. This was done in pairs, and it was wonderful to watch the teamwork that went on as they estimated and then measured blown up pictures of different wild animals.
