Grade R Christmas Art

Hand Christmas tree

It’s nearly Christmas! The Christmas spirit has floated into Grade R as we begin to weave our way through the different and exciting parts that make up the most joyous day of the year.

The Grade R girls worked as a group to make a giant “handful” Christmas tree. After carefully tracing around their hands, the girls cut out their handprints, decorated each one and then collaborated to build the best Christmas tree making sure of the correct shape of a fir tree. Then it was off to the woods to make a forest of Christmas trees! The girls worked in Groups of 5 to create a row of Christmas trees from numbers 1 – 5. After tracing and cutting out 3 triangles, each girl had to decide which number tree they would be and then created their fir tree in the correct order. After numbering the tree in the first triangle, each girl had to draw the corresponding dot as well as the number name on the remaining 2 triangles. They then had fun decorating their row of Christmas trees. Cooperation is an important part of relationships, and children learn to respect other and to control their emotions through collaboration.
