Diving

Julia Iles dived at the CGA diving championships recently. She came 4th on the 1m board; 4th on the 3m board and 2nd on platform. She also made the junior provincial team. Congratulations Julia.

District 13 Netball Trials

Congratulations to the following girls on being selected to attend the GSS Netball Trials:

Azim Zimu, Savanna de Andrade, Reabetswe Phume and Amelie Cloete.

Rock Climbing

Emma Williamson competed in the Gauteng Cup competition recently, in all three disciplines (lead, speed and boulder). The lead competition was a selector for nationals in Cape Town in June.

Emma was placed 2nd in her age group (Youth B I.e U15) in both lead and boulder. She was also one of only 3 girls who tried the speed competition (across all age groups and gender) and managed to log a time. We have yet to receive formal notification, but this means she should be competing in lead for Gauteng in the national competition in Cape Town in June.

Emma has also been selected for the Gauteng Boulder Finals as a result of her performance in the boulder league last month. Congratulations Emma.

Last Friday the Brescia House Bragging Writes team known as "Lady Lit", took part in the Skoobs High School Book Quiz, held at the Book Shop in Montecasino. It was a special evening full of laughs and entertainment, snacks and milk-shakes. Fourways High provided a most competent pianist! Our Quiz Master, Kirsten Rolston from Skoobs, wore a most impressive tall hat and looked rather fierce but with a distinct twinkle in her eye.

The girls who participated were Jemmah Killian, Jessica Wands, Minana Mudoni and Josephine Harty. The other schools taking part were Fourways High, Steyn City and Reddam Helderfontein. Heronbridge won the first round and automatically goes into the quarter finals. The next 'gathering of minds' will be on Friday 17th May 2019.

This weekend the Matric Geography girls, joined by some of the Assumption Convent girls, completed their field work component. Saturday was spent doing Settlement Studies in and around the village of Magaliesburg. Saturday afternoon was spent following the stream at Bush Trail camp to its source. On Sunday the girls did a comparison of Cosmo City, the Sandton CBD and the Johannesburg CBD. Geography always makes more sense when you can see the real thing.
