The grade 12 Art exhibition was held in St Gabriel's atrium on the 21st October. The matric girls all created works based on 2 themes. Their year work pieces on the theme "If the World was Listening" (what would you want to say…) and the IEB examination theme of "Liminal". The pupils are encouraged to interpret these themes in any way pertinent to themselves.

The word 'Liminal' is defined as a threshold, a waiting space in between one place in time or space and another. Liminality can exist as a physical space but also as a non-physical entity – such as a mental space, a spiritual space or a creative space. A liminal space is where we find ourselves feeling different or unsettled for some reason. Some common liminal spaces are airports, the traffic, elevators, school buildings, especially at night, moving between jobs, ending relationships, the end of matric.

The matric class found very interesting and creative ways of interpreting the theme and this resulted in an excellent exhibition addressing a wide variety of issues relevant to today.

Yesterday our Primary School girls in grades 3 to 6 participated in the Interhouse Athletics competition. It was an exciting, fun-filled and closely contested event with only 12 points between the 2nd and 3rd places. Well done to the Interhouse Athletics Winners: Laurus, with Merici being awarded the Spirit Trophy. Special mention goes to Busi Simelane for breaking two event records. Thank you to all our staff and supporters on the day, and to our guest athletes who participated in the parents' and sibling races. We also thank our sports and operations departments for running such a successful event.

Today we were proud to present an honours blazer to Victoria Lavelle. Victoria is loyal to her school and is respected and admired by her peers and staff. She has been a committed member of the equestrian team over the past five years.

Victoria recently represented South Africa at the FEI World Jumping Challenge. SASCOC awarded her with Equestrian Junior Protea Colours for the 2019 FEI World Jumping Challenge Final held in Ecuador last month.

In 2019, as a result of her dedication to the school's equestrian team and having represented South Africa in Ecuador against 16 countries she is awarded a white honours blazer.

Congratulations to Victoria.

At the 6th annual Little Charmers Show, Nicole Daubern was crowned Miss Teen Charity 2019 for all her efforts in raising funds for the Cotton-on Foundation. Nicole won a R3000 Toys R Us voucher which she kindly decided to donate to CHOC in the hope that it would go towards gifts for some of the little ones who will be spending Christmas in hospital.

Brescia House School is very proud of her efforts to help those in need. Nicole, you really do live the Serviam motto by serving others – thank you.
