The Brescia House Alumnae Association continues to grow from strength to strength
The Brescia House School Alumnae Association continues to grow under the leadership of Je’mae Mountjoy (Matric 2003) and the enthusiastic committee of Candyce Simaan (2001), Jane (Whysall) Hynes (2003), Simonetta Guiricich (2005), Stephanie da Silva (2009), Amy Bunce (2010), Samantha (Ward) Thorne (1991), Ruvimbo Mandonga (2005) and Cwayita (Faba) Fungeni (2003). On Saturday 8th June, we hosted a networking tea, to give the current girls an opportunity of meeting some of their older Brescia sisters who are already in the career of their choice and get advice and some insider knowledge. Thank you to Andiccio24 on Grosvenor Road for once again sponsoring pizza for everyone. On the evening of Tuesday 11th June, the association held our fourth AGM.
The Matric Induction took place at a special assembly on Monday 30th September. Stephanie da Silva spoke about the bonds that have kept their class together in the ten years since they left school. Then chairperson of the Alumnae Association, Je’mae Mountjoy, had the privilege of inducting each of the Matrics of 2019 into the Association by draping a specially made Brescia Alumnae scarf around her, representing the bond of sisterhood that this association embodies. There were two second generation Brescia House girls in this year’s group, who were draped by their mothers.
This year, two classes celebrated significant milestones with reunions. On 28th September, Stephanie da Silva got the class of 2009 together at school to reminisce before going out for lunch. Some of their classmates also arranged a reunion in London. The class of 1999 came back to school on the morning of Saturday 19th October, for a tour of the school before going out for lunch. Thank you to Taryn (Lazarus) Curtis for organising her class. Some of their class also met for lunch in London in September.
We now have 21 alumnae with daughters at Brescia and one with a granddaughter, spread from Grade R to Grade 12.
As usual, our “girls” are always willing to give up their time for the school. Cwayita (Faba) Fungeni (2003) was the guest speaker at Valedictory. She spoke about the importance of values in the modern world. Je’mae Mountjoy (Matric 2003), Khutso Mokone (2009), Dominika Pietrzak (Matric 2010) and Nonkululeko Radebe (Matric 2011) all gave up their time to present prizes at the Senior Phase Prize Giving. Once again, several past choir girls came to school to practice with the current choir, so that they could sing at the Carol Service. Courtney Lloyd, Jessica-Leigh Paul and Tayla Farrell (all Matric 2013) took on the difficult job of judging House Music. It was also very good to see so many alumnae at both the carol service and at House Music.
