Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition

Kate-Watson

The Queen's Commonwealth Essay Competition is the world's oldest international schools' writing competition. It is a highly regarded and popular international competition that was started in 1883. The competition is run by the Royal Commonwealth Society, in partnership with Cambridge University Press. Queen Elizabeth II is both the Head of the Commonwealth and the Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society. The competition is open to all citizens and residents of the Commonwealth, aged 18 and under.

This year, one of our grade 12 pupils, Kate Watson, entered the Senior Writing section of this prestigious competition. Some of you may recall that Kate entered this competition last year too and was a awarded a Bronze certificate for her entry entitled, 'Let Them In'.

This year's theme for the competition was 'A Commonwealth for Peace'. It is with great excitement that we have recently heard that Kate has been awarded a Bronze certificate for her entry entitled, 'Passage to Peace'.

When asked about her entry into this year's competition, Kate had the following to say: 'I entered the Senior Category and the theme for this year was "A Commonwealth for Peace". My essay was in the form of a diary format and told the story of a South African girl, which was inspired by some of my life experiences. I wanted to not only address non-violence and political stability, but also being at peace with one's talents and situations.'

To be awarded Bronze certificates two years in a row, is a phenomenal achievement. Congratulations Kate on this wonderful achievement. We are extremely proud of you!
